Film Friday – Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II Review

Breaking Dawn Poster1 Film Friday Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part II Review

I have to admit, when the books came out, I was all about Twilight.  I enjoy the books.  They aren’t ever going to be what I consider part of the classics, but they are fun to read.  I enjoy reading and the escape it brings.  You don’t have to give me depth – but you better give me fun and escape – and those books bring that to me.

The movies are another story.  They left me wanting, especially the last one.  Movies, however, tend to do that to readers who have read the books, though, because we have built up an image in our heads and because, unfortunately, filmmakers and screenwriters can only fit so much into a movie and thus a lot of what we may love gets cut.

I got to see the movie Wednesday night as part of a pre-screening event.  I went with low expectation, because I just was not thrilled with the last one, or really any of them since the first one.  I did enjoy bits and pieces of the series, but overall they aren’t in my list of favorites or movies I’ll watch over and over.  It’s been a while since I’ve read the books, so it had that in it’s favor from the get-go.  I was surprised by much of the movie and how much I had forgotten, which added to the experience of the movie.  I enjoyed it, and that is what is important to me in a movie-going experience.  I also took one of my daughters, who LOVED the movie.  The whole audience was engrossed and yelling at the screen in all the right places, laughing and cheering, and sometimes crying.  Overall, I give the movie a 4/5, but just barely.   The script and acting still were lacking in places, but overall the cinematography, action sequences, and plot were good, and I loved the ending.

A warning for parents:  This is rated PG-13 for violence, adult themes, sexual situations, and some partial nudity.  On the nudity part, it doesn’t really show anything, but there is a sex scene and lots of skin and it’s pretty intense.  Regarding the violence, there is a fight scene between the vampire clans (with the werewolves involved) and there are some pretty graphic images and it’s an intense sequence.  So, please keep these things in mind when deciding whether or not your child is ready to see this.  I definitely think the rating is appropriate and wouldn’t advise any children under 13.

Surprise me, make me scream, make me laugh, and give me a good time.  That’s all I want when I watch a movie, most of the time anyways.  And I got that with this film, so I do recommend it and hope you have as good of a time as I did!

I’d love for you guys to report back and tell me what you think if you got a chance to see it!
